No matter how deluged with work you are, you can still always find time for people who are most important to you, says Gagan Deep Singh...

I am in sales, so my working hours invariably extend beyond 5 PM. It also requires extensive domestic and international travelling. However, I believe one can still always find time to catch up with people who are most important to us.

Wherever I am, I try and ensure that I talk to my parents at least once in a day. I try and give quality time to my job, friends and family.
My job involves meeting a lot of people, and I love that. Each individual is different and has a unique set of positives, which gives me an immense learning opportunity.

Networking comes naturally to me. I am very open and transparent in my interactions with people. I have friends wherever I have worked or stayed, and I love staying in touch with them.

There are two books, which have greatly influenced me – The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari by Robin Sharma, which inspired me to live a simple life and find the right balance between work and family; and Winning by Jack Welch, which talked about how everyone likes to be a winner in life.

I like travelling with family and explore new places. I take a break at least once a year. Sundays are reserved for family and for myself, and I try and pass on the same message to my team. On Sundays I like going out to malls, have dinner outside, cook, read books and catch up on movies.

I am in touch with my friends from school and college. Meeting them is difficult as most of them have moved to different cities, but I try and stay connected via emails and phone.

My childhood is from a small and beautiful hill station, Kasauli (Himachal Pradesh). My parents and sister have been an incredible support system, and contributed hugely to what I am today. I did my mechanical engineering from College of Engineering, Guindy, Chennai and my PGDM from SCHMRD, Pune. I’ve been with the General Motors for more than 12 years now, and I thoroughly love my job.
