Ode to the Bard
Being fashionable is on one’s agenda for all the months in a calendar. Seasons are a fusion of colours and fashion becomes a canvas when these colours create the imagery. Truly, Rabindranath Tagore was a man of all seasons. On May 2, Palki, the fashion destination located in Bhowanipore, unveiled its fashion calendar. Palki’s fashion calendar manifests a mélange of colours, seasons and creations with a signature of Tagore’s sensibilities. This event, open to a select audience, marked the launch of this calendar emerging out of Tagore’s elocution, Sounak Chatterjee’s musical rendition and of course  Prodipto Roy’s interplay of colours.

Just Jazz
Jazz drives away the blues on any given day. The American Centre in alliance with Cafe Coffee Day celebrated the Jazz appreciation month at several CCD outlets through the city on April 29. The band “Kendraka” mesmerised the audience with their superb performance. Nancy Powell, US ambassador; Dean Thompson, consul general and Jeffrey K Reneau, director of American Centre were present at each location. Reneau interacted with the audience, hosted spot quizzes and distributed prizes to the winners.

Dazzle and Shine
The love for jewels has withstood the test of time and jewels are needed to celebrate any occasion, be it a wedding or a cocktail party. Vibgyor Gold Ltd, a part of the Vibgyor Group, inaugurated its first jewellery showroom – Virtue on May 8. The showroom houses gold, silver and diamond jewellery. Actor Srabanti who is the brand ambassador of Virtue, inaugurated the showroom with her husband Rajib, who is also a director. This 2000 sq ft showroom is located in Dumdum Queen, adjacent to Dumdum railway station.

Wrack your Brains
The much awaited “Sunfeast Health and Lifestyle Quiz”, the fourth edition of The Bengal Chamber’s signature event, was held on May 4. The participating teams, an amalgamation of dedicated quizzers, renowned corporates and premier management institutions were headed by quizmaster Anirudh Chari. The infotainment quiz, deviating from the familiar general and business quizzes, made the event stimulating and enjoyable.

Twin Delights
Oxford Bookstore in association with Primus Books on May 3, 2012 hosted the launch of two titles: The Measure of Time- in the Appraisal of Social Reality and Why Unitary Social Science by Dr Ramkrishna Mukherjee. The books were released by Professor Sabyasachi Bhattacharya, former chairman, Indian Council of Historical research and Professor Prasanta Ray, lecturer at Institute of Developmental Studies, University of Calcutta. Dr Mukherjee is the author of numerous books and recipient of many national and international awards.

Cook up a Storm
On the auspicious occasion of Akshay Tritiya, Shiva Kitchen Equipments Pvt Ltd launched their stainless steel modular kitchens - ASIAFINELINE. Actor Locket Chatterjee was present at the occasion. The store is spread across 1400 sq ft and has been designed by interior designer Minakshi Sharma. The store will house different types of kitchen equipment as well. “Our aim is to bring the best to the people of Kolkata and there are a very few companies that cater to the stainless steel modular kitchens and we are proud to be one of them,” said Ashok Sinha, managing director, Shiva Kitchen Equipments Pvt Ltd.
